WOMAN: 5 Steps to Access Assertiveness

WOMAN_FB.png

"Assertiveness is an art in and of itself. It requires us to be mindful, aware, and courageous; to wake up and be present, to expand our level of consciousness by paying attention to the 'now' -- the present moment -- with all of our senses. It requires us to know, for certain, that our life matters, our needs matter, and our happiness matters."  - Crystal Andrus Morissette

In This Episode…

  • The Empowerment Spectrum and the three emotional archetypes therein (3:28)

  • How the archetypes relate to our personalities as women and integrate with "Mother Energy," "Daughter Energy," and "Woman Energy."  (5:40)

  • The 5 steps to access assertiveness (21:40)

Key Points

Intention is the origin of outcome. You've got to know what you want in any situation. "A burning desire is the root of all achievement." - Napoleon Hill Think and Grow Rich (22:22)

Assertiveness in business and personal relationships is necessary.  Assertiveness is part of a continuum of empowerment. (32:01)

What You Can Do

To access your assertiveness, use the WOMAN acronym. (20:45)

W: What are my intentions?  Action follows intention.  Wanting peace is not the same as being passive. (21:56)

O: Overlook the obvious. Michelle Obama said, “When they go low, we go high.” Use this wisdom. (23:33)

M: Manage my emotions. Feel your feelings without becoming them.  (25:24)

A: Ask the right questions What happened to make me feel so badly? What do I wish I could do?  What I am afraid of now?  If I wasn't afraid, what would I do?  Don't succumb to learned helplessness. (26:49)

N: Negotiate new healthy boundaries. Use statements like "When you_______, I feel _________."  Establish consequences. Be careful what you put up with.   (29:34)
